President - Position Description

Mission
The President is responsible for ensuring that the Council members are aware of and fulfill their responsibilities, comply with applicable laws and bylaws, conduct business effectively and efficiently
and are accountable for their performance.  In order to fulfill these responsibilities, and subject to the organization's bylaws, the President presides over meetings, proposes policies and practices, may sit on various committees, monitors the performance of Council members, submits various reports to the Council, proposes the creation of committees, appoints members to such committees and performs other duties as the needed and/or as defined in the bylaws.

Requirement:  Must be a Full Member of HFES.

General Objectives
I.    Oversee all Council positions to insure each are fulfilling their position responsibilities and that deadlines and timelines are met.
II.    Create and distribute monthly meeting agendas
III.    Facilitate Council meetings
IV.    Review meeting minutes and approve for distribution to Council
V.    Review and approve newsletter articles for PSHFES newsletter
VI.    Approve the distribution of all announcements
VII.    Write President’s message for inclusion in quarterly newsletters and website
VIII.    Insure website has been updated as needed throughout the year, working closely with the Communications Chair
IX.    Maintain PSHFES records including copies of insurance, Federal tax returns, meeting minutes and agendas, Council position descriptions and By-laws    
Symposium and Workshop Objectives
I.    Review and sign all contracts (keep original)
II.    Assist Symposium Chair as needed to insure events are well coordinated.
III.    Oversee “Professional Ergonomist of the Year” award
A.    Solicit nominations from membership
B.    Distribute nominations to Past Presidents willing to participate in award determination process
C.    Collect and tally votes for the award
D.    Coordinate obtaining the trophy. NOTE:  Need 2-3 week lead time for trophy engraving
E.    Announce winner at annual Symposium
IV.    Assist in the introductions of speakers, house keeping issues, and other announcements
V.    Introduce Council Members

End of the Year Objectives

I.    Work with Programs Chair to plan Annual Social/Business Meeting
II.    Include Treasurer’s report and Membership report in Annual Business Meeting agenda, along with year-end review.
III.    Work with President Elect to solicit members for open Council positions
IV.    Pass PSHFES records including copies of insurance, Federal tax returns, Council position descriptions and By-laws to incoming President
